Wilder Research is conducting a survey of family child care associations in Minnesota for the Minnesota Department of Human Services. The purposes of the survey are to describe:
- The number, size, scope and make-up of formal and informal associations of family child care providers
- The level and types of activities, training and professional development services offered
- Perceptions and attitudes about training requirements, the Minnesota Professional Development System, Child Care Resource and Referral training, and the Parent Aware quality rating system and ideas for how they can best serve family child care providers
- Other information useful to family child care association stakeholders for planning and decision making
Identified family child care associations will be contacted via mail or email in March, and phone interviews will be conducted in March and April, with preliminary results in June and a final report in August.
For further information about the study and interview process, please contact Jennifer Valorose at Wilder Research (jennifer.valorose@wilder.org, 651-280-2654), or Karen Gaides at the Department of Human Services (karen.gaides@state.mn.us).

Fathers should respect the mother of their children. Regardless of the feelings and the relationship with the children's mother , fathers need to treat her with respect – for the sake of their children. Kids see how parents treat one another & it sets examples and effects their lives. Children are happier and feel more secure when their parents get along. Fathers should ignore negative comments, compliment the mother when they can, and keep the lines of communication open. Fathers should try to seek common ground with mothers around common goals for their children, and they should never criticize their children’s mother in front of their children.
This tip is available through the Fergus Falls Early Childhood Initiative and the Father's Leadership Circle, educating the public on the importance of father involvement. Permission is granted to reproduce these tip in any educational piece.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) believes that proper nutrition and health, a safe and nurturing home environment, and access to high-quality learning in the earliest years of life are integral to helping today’s children prepare for school and workforce success.
SHRM has joined the Partnership for America’s Economic Success, managed by the Pew Center on the States, as part of a national coalition of business leaders mobilized to improve tomorrow’s economy through smart investments in young children today.
Here's SHRM's report on meeting workforce needs through early childhood development:
Meeting the Workforce Needs of Tomorrow ... by Meeting the Development Needs of Young Children Today.

A report from The Urban Institute and The Brookings Institute shows that spending on children increased under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and other stimulus spending, but not proportionately to other federal spending. As ARRA expires, we project that spending on children will decline, assuming no change in current policies.
