The BTD Foundation is one of WCI’s early
component funds, started initially as the BTD Scholarship Fund,
and expanded in
1996 as a broad-based foundation for BTD Manufacturing Inc. This
is a donor advised fund, with an advisory committee of 5 members
from BTD. Most of the BTD Foundation’s grants are made
to support educational and charitable programs in the Detroit
Lakes,
Becker County, and surrounding areas where the company’s
employees live.
A sample of grants includes scholarships
for area students, local school programs, Boys & Girls Club of DL.-winter
clothing program, student assistance programs, support to the
Hospice of Red River
Valley, support to the Lakes Area Young Life, Becker County
Food Shelf, American Red Cross-emergency and social service
programs,
capital support for the Frazee Community Event Center, St.
Mary’s
Health Center, and the Holmes Community Center.
This is an example
on how a local business can maximize its charitable giving
program for the area they serve. It also
provides a means
whereby a variety of employees can participate in selecting
and recommending local charitable needs to be funded. |
