Description: The
West Central Initiative (WCI) Community Organizing and Visioning Grant Program makes
matching grants to assist broad based efforts to develop
a community vision and plan concerning how to address a
critical community need. The goal of the program is to
empower communities in west central Minnesota by finding ways to address critical
needs and to build the consensus necessary to encourage
action.
Eligible Applicants: Broadly
based community coalitions in west central Minnesota that represent the constituencies
affected by the issue to be addressed. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit
or governmental organization must serve as the financial
host for the project.
Restrictions: WCI
will not support projects for:
- Arts, cultural activities, historic
facilities, or museums;
- Sports programs, recreational activities,
and related facilities or events;
- Religious activities;
- Fund drives, grant writing, or fundraising
programs;
- Lobbying or political activities;
- Routine, city, county, or township
planning or zoning;
- Event planning;
- Feasibility studies, architectural
design, or implementation planning; and
- Strategic or long range planning or
other projects focused on the needs or services of a
single organization.
Amounts Available: Up
to $5,000 for most projects, subject to a dollar for dollar
match, typically in cash. Matching
provisions may be waived in some cases.
Deadlines: Applications
are accepted continuously. Decisions are typically made within
three weeks.
