A community's success in building a
better future is closely tied to their ability to discover
and capture the unique strengths of their people. Bringing
community members together for a better future requires
vision and energy. The Family Initiative Program supports
communities in developing their shared vision and releasing
their combined energy.
The Family Initiative Program is designed to help communities create magic
- to mobilize in ways that were unimaginable before; to build relationships
and combine resources in ways that result in great things for children and
families. Our strategies include:
- Education and Promotion: WCI shares
success stories, research, and other evidence that demonstrates
to stakeholders that change is possible and necessary.
- Planning Grants: Planning grants related to WCI's Family Initiative are now being handled through WCI's Visioning Grant Program. Please refer to the Community Initiative section of this web-site for a description of these grants and related application information.
- Implementation
Grants - New Grantees: WCI provides funding
which communities may use to build the capacity of
communities to support the development of strong families.
- Implementation Grants - Continuation: WCI provides funding
for existing Family Initiative grantees that have demonstrated
competence in leading asset-based community development.
- Technical Assistance: WCI provides
technical assistance and networking opportunities to
support community stakeholders in championing a strengths-based
framework for collective work on behalf of children,
youth, and families.
The Family Initiative currently
provides support to 14 communities. You may find out

grantees by clicking
