Description: The
Workers and their Families Initiative of the West Central Initiative (WCI)
is designed to address the critical and growing shortages
of skilled workers in west central Minnesota. This application is intended
for a variety of projects that address regional workforce
issues. Types of projects which are eligible include, but
are not limited to educational
programs for fields with local labor shortages and worker
recruitment programs.
Eligible Applicants: 501(c)(3)
non-profit organizations or units of government willing
to accept financial responsibility for the project.
Restrictions: Applicants
must demonstrate that the project will focus on fields
with documented shortages of qualified workers in west central Minnesota.
WCI will not support:
- Efforts to recruit workers at the
expense of other local businesses or industries;
- Lobbying or political activities;
or
- General operating costs or scholarships
for pre-existing programs.
Amounts Available: The
maximum award is generally $25,000.
Deadlines: Requests
for up to $5,000 are accepted any time and will usually be
processed within three weeks. Requests for $5,000 to $25,000
are accepted monthly and will usually be processed within
six weeks.
