WCI is opening a grant opportunity to nonprofits and communities that would like to reach out to historically undercounted communities regarding the 2020 Census. West Central will award up to 50 grants of $500 each to 501(c)(3) nonprofits or governmental agencies that serve residents within the counties of Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, and Wilkin.


Populations that are historically undercounted in Minnesota include

·        Young children, ages birth to 5
·        Renters
·        Highly mobile persons
·        Young adults, ages 18 to 24
·        Racial and ethnic minorities
·        Native/indigenous people
·        Non-English speakers
·        Low income persons
·        Persons experiencing homelessness
·        Undocumented immigrants
·        Persons who distrust the government
·        Persons with disabilities
·        Persons who do not live in traditional housing
·        Snowbirds
·        Persons who do not get door-to-door mail delivery
